MESSE STUTTGART PRESS RELEASE: „Weight reduction“ at Moulding Expo

Cooperative venture between State Agency of Baden-Württemberg for Lightweight Construction and Messe Stuttgart

In almost every industry "weight reduction" is now playing a huge role. Lightweight construction is one of the most important drivers of innovation and thus a key technology for the future. Good enough reason for Messe Stuttgart to get together with a professional in this field – Leichtbau BW GmbH from Stuttgart, a Baden-Württemberg State Agency for Economic and Scientific Cooperation. A suitable programme will be jointly developed over the coming weeks on the topic of "lightweight construction" and presented at Moulding Expo in May 2015. Visitors to the international trade fair for prototyping, tool and mould making can expect a user forum and guided tours.

Tool construction and mould making is gaining significant importance in the manufacture of lightweight products - whether it is with injection moulding, die casting, carbon fibre reinforced plastics or punched and formed parts. "The knowledge on how extremely complex tools are developed and produced at a reasonable cost represents an important contribution to lightweight construction", states Dr. Wolfgang Seeliger, President of Leichtbau BW. "Because certain lightweight construction technologies are only possible with functional tools. In this respect, Moulding Expo is an excellent opportunity for users to come into contact with complex and refined lightweight construction technologies."

For Messe Stuttgart the state agency is therefore an ideal partner, whose expertise is to be presented to the public in May. For CEO of Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH, Ulrich Kromer von Baerle, the cooperative venture is "another perfect element" of the trade fair concept for Moulding Expo: "The state agency acts as a neutral and cross-industry contact for industry, research and society, and offers its support on questions relating to technology and knowledge transfer in the lightweight construction area, among other things. The offering of Leichtbau BW GmbH is therefore an ideal supplement to our event programme."

But lightweight construction is more than just using carbon fibres or integrating new materials, according to Leichtbau BW. In fact, the Moulding Expo wants to show that a complete rethink is required in relation to methods, processes and materials. Also the necessary standards and new work processes should be shown as part of the "industrial lightweight construction revolution" in the user forum of the Stuttgart-based trade fair in May. "The benefit to the customer is always to the fore", highlights Dr. Wolfgang Seeliger, who also wants to share his lightweight construction vision with the trio of added value, process and simulation at Messe Stuttgart.
