AMB Press Release: More room for innovations

Another exhibition hall at AMB 2018 - Affected exhibitors are extremely pleased - First three-storey exhibition stand at AMB 2014

The move to the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre in 2007 was supposed to alleviate the lack of space for exhibitors at AMB. However, AMB, International Exhibition for Metal Working, was fully booked up again straight away when it was held for the first time at the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre with its gross exhibition area of 105,200 square metres, i.e. double that at the old Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre in Killesberg. And this situation has remained right up to the present day, waiting lists included.

An improvement is now finally in sight. In July 2013 the Supervisory Board and shareholders of Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH approved the start of the preliminary planning for the upgrading of the West Entrance and the construction of another exhibition hall at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre. The Supervisory Board of Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH, the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, the city of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Regional Assembly have now given the go-ahead for the construction of the new exhibition hall. The laying of the foundation stone for the new Hall 10 is scheduled to take place in autumn 2015. The hall with an extra 14,600 square metres of exhibition space would be available for AMB 2018. It will be directly connected to Hall 8. It will be constructed on a concrete area which has been used to date as a car park. The West Entrance will also be enlarged by an area of around 3,000 square metres and will become much more important. After the extension, the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre will have a total exhibition area of around 120,000 square metres.

A project which is greatly appreciated by AMB exhibitors. "As a long-standing exhibitor at AMB, Hermle AG welcomes the extension of the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre. It will further enhance the attractiveness of Stuttgart as a venue for trade fairs and exhibitions. AMB can grow further and will therefore provide the ideal environment for an international exhibition in the long term," said Franz-Xaver Bernhard, Director Sales, Research & Development at Maschinenfabrik Berthold Hermle AG. Another machine tool manufacturer also has a similarly positive view of the extension plans.

"As a regular machine exhibitor at AMB, we at BURKHARDT+WEBER were pleased to hear that the hitherto very restricted exhibition space will be increased by the construction of a new exhibition hall. This will further boost the successful AMB exhibition through the resulting larger stands and the additional exhibitors," said Andreas Mittermüller, Managing Director of BURKHARDT+WEBER Fertigungssysteme GmbH, with confidence.

The precision tool manufacturer Paul Horn will compensate for the lack of space by presenting a spectacular stand construction concept: a three-storey exhibition stand will be seen for the first time at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre in Hall 1, revealed Lothar Horn, Managing Director of Paul Horn GmbH and Chairman of the VDMA Precision Tools Association: "We are increasing the size of our stand vertically rather than horizontally for the second time in succession at AMB. In 2014 we will present our products on three levels and expect additional growth for our company, but also for AMB. I therefore believe that the additional hall is necessary to meet future requirements."

Messe Stuttgart is also relieved that it can offer more exhibition space. "The new hall will provide new prospects for further expansion of our events which are already reaching their capacity limits," said Ulrich Kromer, Management Representative of Messe Stuttgart. In addition to AMB, these events include CMT, the world´s largest public exhibition for tourism and leisure, R+T, the leading world trade fair for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun protection systems, RETRO CLASSICS, the central meeting point for the international historic and classic car scene, INTERGASTRA, the leading trade fair for innovative gastronomy, and many other events such as LOGIMAT or Blechexpo."

The new exhibition hall will also allow better use of the trade fair grounds from two sides and make it easier to distribute and manage the visitor flows at different events. Ulrich Kromer added: "We are proud of the high demand by exhibitors and visitors from all over the world. Hall 10 will also satisfy this demand in future. It is now revealed - after experience gained over almost seven years of operation - that the initial plans with ten exhibition halls were realistic. Right from the very beginning, the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre was one of the German trade fair centres with the highest capacity utilisation. Thanks to the many new events which have been added in the last few years, our turnover has risen much quicker than originally expected. This has positive impacts on commerce, industry and restaurants in the neighbouring towns and municipalities."

The current cost estimate for the expansion is around €67.5 million. Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH will finance the new building from its own resources. There will be no grants or subsidies for this from the city of Stuttgart or the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Just like the construction of the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, the building principal for the new exhibition hall is Projektgesellschaft Neue Messe GmbH & Co. KG.

More than 90,000 trade visitors and around 1,300 exhibitors are expected to attend AMB 2014 from 16 to 20 September 2014. Exhibitors will present innovations and further developments from the metal cutting and precision tool industry, as well as chucking tools, CAD, CAM, CAE, software, grinding machines, handling of workpieces and tools, and measuring systems on a gross exhibition area of more than 105,000 square metres.

AMB 2014 will be backed by the promotional supporters, i.e. the VDMA Precision Tools Association, the VDMA Software Association and the Association of German Machine Tool Manufacturers (VDW).
