PRODEX and SWISSTECH 2016: discover what drives Swiss industry.

The two most important trade shows for the MEM sector and its supplier industries are opening their doors in mid-November in Basel. Numerous solutions and trends from the MEM industry will be on show at this year’s PRODEX and SWISSTECH, running from 15 to 18 November 2016.

With lots of innovations, trends and prototypes, PRODEX and SWISSTECH are once again awaiting interested trade visitors this year. 320 exhibitors will be presenting at PRODEX, while SWISSTECH will see around 440, meaning the trade fair duo will once more be filling up all three of Messe Basel’s halls 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. Alongside a wide variety of different exhibitions, the topics of Industrie 4.0 and 3D printing will also form part of an attractive programme during the four days of the fair.

Interconnected industry = Industrie 4.0

Everyone’s talking about Industrie 4.0. The merger of industrial processes and information technology will have a big influence on the MEM industry in future. New business models, more efficient production, reduced costs – Industrie 4.0 will increasingly help to maintain Switzerland’s competitive edge as a centre for industry.

How can I make use of Industrie 4.0? How does it work? Sponsored by the FHNW, experts will be giving talks that cover practical examples and solutions that are already being used or are yet to be implemented.

In addition to this cutting-edge topic, the SWISSMEM association is organising guided tours of the trade fair each day.

Forward-thinking procurement enterprises now have an opportunity to play an active part in shaping the future of digitisation. Along with two partners, the professional association procure.ch has founded a working group where procurement managers can define their new role by virtue of the digital transformation.

A talk and panel discussion will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, 16 November at stand B50 in the Forum hall 1.1, dealing with the issue of digitalisation and its effects on the industry as a whole, on companies and on purchasing.

Forum and 3D Printing special exhibition

3D printing is a technological trend offering almost unlimited possibilities in many different fields. Exhibit & More Ltd. and the trade magazine “Technische Rundschau” will be presenting an exciting programme of talks and a special exhibition with a practical focus, covering the latest findings and practical applications of 3D printing. Various topics will be discussed in forums each morning throughout the four days of the trade fair, ranging from “management and services”, “machinery and systems” through to “research and innovation”.

“Technische Rundschau” and 3D-Model AG will be presenting the 3D Printing Award at 12.30 p.m. on Friday, 18 November at stand E50 – a new feature this year.

Promoting the next generation

This year, the trade fair power duo will once again be dedicating the first day to young talent from the MEM industry. On Tuesday, 15 November, the organisers will be offering free entry to students of technical and vocational colleges and groups of apprentices working in industry, with lunch also provided.

Industry skills 2016: in search of Swiss experts

Who will make it to WorldSkills 2017 in Abu Dhabi? During the trade fair, Swissmechanic will be selecting this year’s Swiss champion polytechnician in the automation, CNC turning and CNC milling disciplines.

At the same time, SWISSMEM will be hosting the Swiss skills championships to select the twelve best professionals in each of EFZ automation, electronic and structural engineering, where the young experts will be presenting their masterpieces live. The winners will be announced at 2 p.m. on Friday 18 November in the forum.

Joint stands from Switzerland and abroad

SWISSTECH will again be appearing with a variety of joint stands. Swissmechanic, the Swiss employers’ association for SMEs operating in the mechanical, technical and electrical sectors, will be representing the entire spectrum alongside international joint stands from Germany, Italy and Bulgaria.

2016 PRODEX Award

The PRODEX Award, the most prestigious Swiss technology prize for top international achievements in the field of manufacturing and production, will be presented for the fifth time in collaboration with trade fair organisers Exhibit & More Ltd and Vogel Business Media Ltd. The ten best products or processes were selected from all the entries by a panel made up of experts representing universities and industry associations as well as Schweizer Maschinenmarkt magazine and its French-language counterpart MSM. The three winners will be announced at a special ceremony in the forum on Thursday, 17 November at 5 p.m., with an opening speech delivered by Hans Hess, President of Swissmem.

One ticket for a concentrated dose of Swiss innovation

One ticket is all it takes to gain entry to the trade fair power duo. Basel is the most important meeting and market place within the MEM industry. In 2014, PRODEX and SWISSTECH saw almost 53,000 trade visitors with high-level decision-making authority. Don’t miss this important event and get hold of your online ticket now at www.prodex.ch or www.swisstech-messe.ch.

Another huge influx of visitors is expected at PRODEX and SWISSTECH in 2016.
